1. Clarity
Be clear on your objective. Successful goal setting depends upon your knowing exactly what you want to accomplish. It benefits you greatly if you have your end game pictured in your mind. The more specific you are the better.
2. Plan
Map out your steps for going from where you are to where you want to be. Even though everything may not go according to your plans, you should still make them so that you have order to what you are doing. Without plans the journey seems long and confusing.
3. Focus
You should keep your attention on two things while pursuing your goal. You should focus on your work habits and your dream. Do not get discouraged by setbacks or disappointing results. Maintain focus on what you can control. You can control your attitude and you work ethic. The results will eventually work out in your favor.
4. Benchmarks
Establish daily, weekly, and monthly work habit goals. These will be your benchmarks. Hitting these goals consistently gives you control over your eventual success. It is your habits that make or break you, so establish work habits that will give you what you want.
Determine what is required and make a commitment to do it. As you do your work habits each day give yourself a passing grade. If you do not hit your goal for that day give yourself a failing grade and try to make up for missing that goal by doubling up on the next day. If you do this then you will hit your weekly goals, your monthly goals and ultimately your main objective.
5. Accountability
It helps to be accountable to someone. When you have a partner whom you can be accountable to you gain a psychological advantage that you do not have when you work alone.
Firstly, you have someone in your corner who understands what you are going through so they can lend you support. In addition, you have a person who can hold accountable to your word. When you tell someone you are going to do something then it becomes difficult not to do it. It makes you feel like you let them down. We tend to do more make others think well of us than we do in order to achieve a goal that we believe will only affect us.
6. Date
Place a date on your goal. A goal without a date is just a wish. This is the key that separates successful people from unsuccessful people. People who do not establish a date of completion for their goals are the same people who are constantly telling others that they are going to realize their dream someday. The sad fact is "someday" never comes. They never get what they want because they did not set a date for accomplishing their goal.
7. Persistence
"Persistence is to the character of man as carbon is to steel." ~ Napoleon Hill. In order to have success with goals it is vital that you develop a high level of persistence. If you work long enough at your goal you will succeed. You will get more skilled, you will gain more confidence and you will yield desired results. You can't quit. You gain strength proficiency in the struggle. Each time you overcome setbacks you increase your ability to do what it take to win. Keep your mind on your dream and you will find it easier to persist.
